The China Finance 40 Forum (CF40) held an online seminar centered on the ongoing novel coronavirus outbreak in China on February 22, 2020. As the epidemic has shown some positive sign with the number of newly confirmed cases decreasing outside Wuhan, the epicenter, the tradeoff between resuming production to support economic growth and preventing the worsening of the epidemic becomes a prominent issue to policymakers.
The webinar started with two keynote speeches – “The Economic Impacts of the Novel Coronavirus” and “Policy Response for the Novel Coronavirus” by Gao Shanwen, Member of CF40 Academic Committee and Chief Economist of Essence Securities, and Zhang Bin, CF40 Senior Fellow, followed by comments from Yu Yongding, CF40 Advisor and Academician of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Zhang Xiaohui, CF40 Non-Resident Senior Fellow and former Assistant Governor of the People’s Bank of China, and Wang Yi, CF40 Member and Director-General of the Department of Finance of Ministry of Finance.
Participants also include Xiao Gang, CF40 Non-Resident Senior Fellow and former Chairman of China Securities Regulatory Commission, Huang Yiping, Chairman of CF40 Academic Committee and Deputy Dean of the National School of Development at Peking University, Liu Yuanchun, CF40 Member and Vice President of Renmin University of China, and Wu Ge, CF40 Member and chief economist and assistant president at Changjiang Securities among others.
The seminar was moderated by Wang Haiming, CF40 Secretary-General.
