In May 2014, the China Finance 40 Forum (CF40), the Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE), and Bruegel jointly held the 2014 China-US-Europe Economists Symposium and carried out a series of exchanges in Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou.
The two-day symposium took place on 17-18 May in Beijing with a theme of Reform: Challenges & Opportunities. It consisted of five panels, each of which covering a specific topic, including the prospect, risks and challenges for Sino-US-Euro economic growth; secular stagnation; financial reform and its effect on real economy; inflation and asset price dynamics; 70th anniversary for Bretton Woods: review & outlook.
From 19 to 21 May, the PIIE delegation paid visits to government departments, financial regulators and institutions in Beijing, including the People's Bank of China, China Securities Regulatory Commission, the Ministry of Finance, Development Research Center of the State Council, and National School of Development at Peking University. Informative exchanges were carried out revolving around issues such as global growth, international finance, China-US economic and trade relations, bilateral investment, and China's economy reform.
On 22 May, CF40, PIIE and Shanghai Finance Institute (SFI) jointly held a luncheon in Shanghai, where experts had exchanges on new rules of globalization and China-US relations.
On 24 May, the CF40-PIIE delegation visited the headquarters of Alibaba in Hangzhou and had discussions on the latest development of Fintech.
