The Inaugural CF40-NRI China-Japan Finance Roundtable

On June 24, 2012, China Finance 40 Forum (CF40) and Nomura Research Institute (NRI) jointly held the first CF40-NRI Finance Roundtable with the theme Causes of and Lessons from Japan's Long Stagnation. The Roundtable consisted of two sessions.

The first session features keynote speeches by Japanese experts. Yoshimasa Nishimura, Emeritus Professor from Waseda University and former Director-General of the Banking Bureau of the Ministry of Finance, Prof. Mitsuhiro Fukao from the Department of Economics at Musashino University, and Ms. Nemoto Naoko, Managing Director of S&P Japan, talked about "Financial Marketization and Financial Administration", "Impact of Exchange Rate Liberalization and Capital Account Opening on the Japanese Economy", "Importance of Interest Rate Liberalization, Credit Risk Management and Proper Pricing in Japan" respectively.

Chinese economists took the helm in the second session. Mr. Wei Jianing, CF40 Member and Deputy Director-General of Macroeconomic Research Department at Development Research Center of China's State Council (DRC), Mr. Guan Tao, Director-General of Balance of Payments Department of the State Administration of Foreign Exchange, and Mr. Qu Qiang, Deputy Director of Institute of Finance and Securities of Renmin University of China delivered speeches titles "Lessons from Japanese Economy and Implications for China", "Causes of and Lessons from Japan's Long Stagnation", and "Reflections on Japan's Economic Bubble".

Following the speeches, experts from the two countries had in-depth discussions on the significance of Japanese experience for China's economic development. The roundtable was moderated by Wang Haiming, CF40 Secretary-General.
