The China Finance 40 Forum and the Peterson Institute for International Economies jointly held the first China-US Economists' Symposium and a series of exchange activities in Beijing and Shanghai from 23 to 28 April 2012.
On 27 and 28 April, the two think tanks held the symposium with a theme of United States and China: Systemic Responsibilities for the Global Economy. The two-day symposium featured discussions on European debt crisis, global recession, and the change in Sino-US economic relation; the international roles of RMB and the US Dollar; monetary and credit policies and their impact on asset prices; the roles of China and the US in the international financial regulatory system post crisis.
The PIIE delegation also paid visits to government departments, financial agencies and academic institutions including the China Banking Regulatory Commission, China Securities Regulatory Commission, the State Administration of Foreign Exchange, National Development and Reform Commission, Peking University, and the Institute of World Economics and Politics of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Chinese and American experts had in-depth exchanges on topics such as reforming and improving post-crisis regulatory systems, economic imbalances and exchange rate issues, China's local government debt issues, capital market development, the Fed's QE policy, foreign exchange and economic rebalancing, etc.
