From May 16 to May 22, 2016, China Finance 40 Forum (CF40) and the Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE) carried out their annual exchange program in Beijing.
The two think tanks held the 5th China-US Economists' Symposium on May 21 and 22 in Beijing, under a broad theme of current economic situation and risks in China and the US. Participants had discussions revolving China and US economic performance and potential risks, supply-side reforms in China, China's financial market volatility and exchange rate reform, and the challenges facing China and US monetary policies.
During their stay in Beijing, the PIIE delegation met with Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang, and paid visits to government departments and financial agencies and institutions, including China Banking Regulatory Commission, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, China Investment Corporation and others.
As part of the exchange program, CF40 and PIIE also hosted a luncheon under the theme "Investment and Trade Rules in Cyberspace" featuring a keynote speech by PIIE non-resident senior fellow Rory MacFarquhar. Attendees at the luncheon shared their views on intellectual property rights protection, G20 security agenda, TPP's rules and blockchain.
