On November 27, 2016, CF40 held a roundtable seminar on the recent movement of RMB exchange rate and its impact.
At the seminar, Guan Tao, CF40 senior fellow and former Director-General of the Department of Balance of Payments at China’s State Administration of Foreign Exchange, presented a detailed analysis of the causes and implications of the recent movements of RMB. His speech was followed by discussions on related topics such as the efficacy and weakness of the new pricing mechanism of RMB central parity rate, how to improve the exchange rate formation mechanism, and exchange rate policy choices facing an expected strong dollar.
More than 30 members from the government, financial industry and research institutes attended the seminar, including CF40 member and vice chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) Fang Xinghai, Director-General and Deputy Director-General of the International Department of the People's Bank of China Zhu Jun and Guo Kai, Chief Economist of Essence Securities Gao Shanwen, Chairman and CIO of Deepwater Capital Sun Mingchun, Director of Beijing Normal University Financial Research Center Zhong Wei, and others.
The seminar was held by CF40 in collaboration with the Shanghai Finance Institute (SFI) and the Northern Finance Institute (NFI). CF40 Secretary-General Wang Haiming chaired the discussion.
